The aviation alert level lowered

The Icelandic Met Office has lowered the aviation alert level for flights. It is now orange but was red until 12 o´clock GMT time today. The Met Office says that further research has led to the conclusion that there was no eruption under Dyngjujökull Glacier yesterday. Still there is much Seismic activity. Last night two earthquakes over 5.0 where measured.

The Met Office says that the Seismic activity under Dyngjujökull has moved a little bit to north and it is now mostly under the margins of the glacier where an earthquake at size 4.2 was measured this morning.

The Met office says that there are no indications of diminished seismic activity. Therefore the probability that there will be an eruption can not be ruled out.

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has occurred in the Bárðarbunga caldera at 5 km depth at 00:09. It is the strongest event measured since the onset of the seismic crisis at Bárðarbunga.

International air traffic not affected

International flights still operate to and from Keflavik International Airport, in spite of the eruption in Dyngjujökull glacier, near Bárðarbunga, which started earlier today.

No-Fly Zone

A large part of southeastern Iceland is a no-fly zone due to the eruption in Dyngjujökull glacier. The decision about the no-fly zone is re-estimated every two hours.
